Course Content

This course offers six interactive zoom sessions. Emily will guide you through the aspects and features of what makes an image stand out from all the rest and gain acceptance in juried art exhibits.

Students will submit images for review and Emily will conduct this using Lightroom. She may at times briefly demonstrate with additional editing programs such as; Topaz Studio 2, Nik Collection and Luminar 4. (Students are not required to have this software, if Emily demonstrates with them, it would be as an overview, not an in-depth tutorial.)

  • Covering two elements of a gallery worthy image each week, topics include:

  • Image Impact

  • Clarity of Subject

  • Individual Style

  • Printing Your Work

  • Presentation Considerations

  • And Much More

Required Gear

What materials are needed for this class?

  • Emily will be using Lightroom Classic, it would be helpful if you had a basic understanding of this program.

  • Although any camera will do, the best options will be cameras that allow one to control exposure such as most DSLR or Mirrorless cameras.

What People Are Saying About This Course

“From Week One, I became a more skilled photographer. The inventory homework was genius. And I started to shoot on manual mode and figured out how to read my exposure meter, life changing. I have a new camera body and have struggled with it becoming an extension of me, this course helped break the ice. … The review of everyone's homework was very informative and so interesting to see the edits… The time flew by. I loved the class format, the people were great, Emily is an extraordinary instructor, it was a valuable learning experience.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the course and I learned a lot that will help me with my photography in the future. Thanks.”

“Emily is a terrific instructor. She helped me make a significant improvement in my photography, and I am grateful. From the first class/homework assignment, going back to basics, to the last, the course was challenging, specific, thoughtful, comprehensive, and fun. The supportive approach she took with each of us made her relatable. … Just a thought…The mark of an excellent teacher is the ability to keep the student wanting more. May we have a 12 Elements of a Gallery Worthy Image, Part II, please?”
