A Year of Creative Photography

Jan- Dec 2022

Instructor, Lori Lankford

A year of creative photography is an online program exploring a different creative theme each month of the year. Students will receive a new creative themed mini-course each month.

The course will include instructor audio content, videos, and monthly activities. As you spend time exploring the topic you can share images, questions and ideas within the private online community.

Each topic is perfect for beginners to advanced photographers and there are no pre-requisites.

There are 2 Live Zoom sessions on the last Saturday of each month. One group meets at 9:00 and the other meets at 10:30.

This course is a year long journey of creative photography. The monthly themes will keep you inspired all year long.

At the beginning of each month you will receive a new mini-course with a fresh creative topic. The content each month is just the right amount to focus on for 30 days, however you will have access to each month's materials for the entire year in case you miss a month or get busy.

Through the online community students will be able to post images, get feedback, and ask questions each month. Students can submit two final images each month for the instructor to review and provide a critique.

The live zoom session will be held each month on the last Saturday at 10:30am. The sessions are recorded and shared.

Course Content

Each month you will receive new content for the course. The materials will include instructor presentation with audio, videos, and downloadable tools.

In this course you need to shoot what you love - flowers, nature, abstract, landscape, people. Most of the course content will show examples with nature or flowers. But the creative concepts can be applied to any genre.

  • Monthly Topics Include: Abstract, Color, Shadows, Visual Stories, Texture, Light/Bokeh, Composition, Water, Movement, Reflection, and more.

  • Instructor Support: Each month a live zoom class and full video image review will be provided.

  • Online Private Community: The course will have an online learning space to share images, ask questions, and get instructor support.

Testimonials

This class has been good for me because I’ve been challenged to explore in detail different aspects of photography: light, color, shadow, movement, abstract photography, photographing water and more. Each month has brough a different are to explore with thorough instructions and examples and Lori’s support in each has been very helpful. As important as Lori’s support is the support of my fellow classmates. Their work has inspired me with different ideas, different viewpoints and to work hard to improve my photography and editing. My fellow classmates and Lori make up a community. I’ve had a full year sharing with this community and learning from them. In summary this class has been, to quote a well known T.V. ad, priceless. Lori is a gifted photographer, and a nurturing teacher. She did a wonderful job with the curriculum/content and the Zoom lessons. The layout flowed very well, and built upon each previous lesson. She provided both pre-recorded and live demonstrations, which for the beginner, like myself, made the lessons much more approachable, less intimidating. I have found the online courses to be extremely beneficial! I am able to watch,
and rewatch content to thoroughly soak it in.

I've really enjoyed the class, and I've picked up a lot of great new techniques that I'll continue to explore. Many thanks to Lori for making her quick response on questions, images, and edits. This was the first course I've taken from the Capital Photography Center,
and I'll be looking to sign up for others.

LOVED IT! Lori taught in a way that the skills could be applied at all levels. Online presentations were extremely well done--loved the examples and different videos demonstrating techniques. Lori is knowledgeable, professional, helpful, supportive and inspirational. I felt the class helped me take my photography to the next level in a short amount of time.
